TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - A 15-year-old is behind bars in connection to a weekend shooting on Perry Street that left several injured, according to the Tallahassee Police Department.

Police Chief Lawrence Revell announced during a press conference Monday morning that Anthony Rivers III was charged with 11 counts of attempted second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a delinquent.

The teen is being charged as an adult, according to officials.

“What should have been a weekend of celebration in our community instead became a night of fear and violence for the victims and their families,” Revell said. “While this arrest marks a significant step forward, our work is far from over. We remain committed to holding those responsible accountable and getting answers for every family impacted by this tragedy.”

The 15-year-old suspect appeared in court Monday morning, where a judge ordered him to remain behind bars.

At least 11 people were shot, including six minors who Chief Revell said did not appear to be the intended targets. A 12th victim was a grandmother who was hurt running from the scene, according to the police department.

The youngest victim was 11 years old. Revell also said he believes one of the victims is a Florida A&M University student.

In a statement to WCTV, Leon County Schools confirmed that as of Monday morning, four of their students, “attending three different schools,” sustained injuries in the weekend shooting.

The school district also shared a statement on social media, saying the schools were prepared, with counselors available Monday to support any students who may have been affected.

“Our schools are a reflection of the communities they serve, and when tragedy strikes our neighborhoods, the impact is often felt in our classrooms,” LCS said. “Our hearts are with the victims and their families during this difficult time.”

The TPD press conference early Monday morning comes nearly two days after the tragic shooting transpired. Police said the incident unfolded just before 8 p.m. Saturday on Perry Street after FAMU hosted the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions for their annual homecoming game that night.

Perry Street sits a few steps away from the Bragg Memorial Stadium.

Officials said “early findings” show the shooting began with a physical altercation between individuals known to each other.

The shooting left three seriously injured, one in critical condition and eight others with unknown conditions at this time. However, Chief Revell announced Sunday evening that five of the victims were released from the hospital.

Since the shooting occurred, several state and local officials have addressed the incident, with FAMU President Marva Johnson calling the shooting “despicable.”

In a social media video post Sunday afternoon, Johnson said that FAMU is providing its “full support” to TPD and their investigation.

Rivers III’s arraignment is scheduled for Nov. 16.
