ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - After two weeks of testimony, a man was found guilty of starving his 4-year-old daughter to death.

Jury deliberations began Wednesday morning in the trial of Rodney McWeay, who prosecutors said mistreated his three children and intentionally deprived them of food and water, calling the home a “house of horrors.”

In a verdict returned shortly before noon, McWeay was found guilty on one count of malice murder and one count of felony murder; three counts of cruelty to children in the first degree; three counts of false imprisonment; three counts of contributing to the dependency of a minor; and three counts of kidnapping.

All of the charges are felonies.

McWeay was impassive as the jury announced their verdict. Fulton County Superior Court Judge Belinda Edwards said McWeay will be sentenced within the next 30 days.

Police found McWeay’s daughter, Treasure, unresponsive around Christmas in 2023. She, along with her two brothers, was taken to the hospital for treatment, where she later died. McWeay was arrested Dec. 21, 2023, in connection with the death.

McWeay’s attorney acknowledged his client made bad decisions when it came to the mother of his children, but argued he never intended to harm his children.
