COLUMBIA HEIGHTS, Minn. (WKRC) — A father was arrested in connection to the alleged murder and decapitation of his 16-year-old son months after the boy was reported missing.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by local outlet KROC, the 16-year-old was first reported missing by his mother on May 12. She reportedly told authorities that the teenager lived with his father, 38-year-old Jordan Dupree Collins.

The mother told police that she hadn't heard from her son since May 8 at around 4 a.m. when he reacted to one of her text messages, per the complaint. Collins allegedly told the mother that the boy left the house on May 8 to board a bus to visit his grandmother and girlfriend. The mother reportedly learned that the child never made it to his grandmother's.

Others, including the victim's girlfriend, confirmed that nothing had been heard from him since May 8, per the complaint.

Officers obtained a search warrant for Collins' house on May 15 and found multiple pieces of evidence suggesting something had occurred in the home.

"During the search, law enforcement located items with apparent blood staining in garage bags in a living room closet," the complaint read. "Law enforcement also located several butcher/hunting style knives in the apartment's bedroom closet. In the bedroom, law enforcement observed a mattress on the floor. A piece of mattress covering was missing on the underside of the mattress. In addition, under the mattress, a piece of carpet and carpet padding was also missing. Neither missing piece were found in the apartment."

The Anoka County Sheriff's Department announced on July 1 that the boy's body had been found in a landfill after deputies followed the garbage truck that picked up Collins' garbage. KROC reported that a preliminary autopsy found that the 16-year-old had likely been decapitated.

Collins was arrested and charged with murder.
