ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - The Falcons have a new defensive coordinator.

The team announced Saturday that it hired Jeff Ulbrich to take the position, one week after firing Jimmy Lake.

Ulbrich rejoins a Falcons coaching that he was a staple of from 2015 to 2020. he was the team’s linebackers coach from 2015 to 2019 before being promoted to defensive coordinator for the final 11 games of the 2020 season. That move came after current Falcons head coach Raheem Morris was promoted to interim head coach after the firing of Dan Quinn.

He was the defensive coordinator for the New York Jets before being promoted to interim head coach after Robert Saleh’s firing early this season. Ulbrich went 3-9 in New York.

Ulbrich’s first two seasons as Jets defensive coordinator weren’t much to talk about, but his 2022 squad was the fourth best in the NFL
