TIFT COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - An investigation is underway after an inmate was found unresponsive in the Tift County Jail.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is conducting the investigation of the death of the inmate, but they “don’t have any specifics to report at this time”.

Tift County Coroner Josh Hendrix says that an autopsy for the individual is scheduled for Wednesday, and he should be able to provide more information once complete.
