WASHINGTON (7News) — While President Donald Trump's inauguration ceremonies were still taking place, one of his most ambitious plans, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has been hit with a slew of lawsuits.

Three separate suits - the first from the American Public Health Association, American Federation of Teachers, Minority Veterans of America, VoteVets Action Fund, the Center for Auto Safety, Inc., and Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington; the second from public interest law firm National Security Counselors, and third from consumer watchdog group Public Citizen with State Democracy Defferenders Fun and the American Federation of Government Employees.

Each of the three suits has the same crux - that the creation of DOGE violates the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA). The 1972 law requires federal advisory committees to meet transparency requirements, like “fairly balanced” representation, public attendance, and the filing of a congressional charter. DOGE has not taken these steps.

President Trump has tapped Tesla CEO Elon Musk and biotech founder Vivek Ramaswamy to lead the program, who pledged to cut $2 trillion in government spending through the agency.

"DOGE presents the risk of financial conflicts, self-dealing, and corruption because Mr. Musk and Mr. Ramaswamy are corporate investors whose financial interests could be implicated by changes to the federal government’s regulatory or fiscal policy made as a result of the recommendations that they will furnish the administration," court documents filed by Public Citizen said.

However, the Associated Press is now reporting that Ramaswamy will not serve in DOGE, citing White House officials.

“DOGE’s stacked membership, far from being fairly balanced, reveals that only one viewpoint is represented: that of ‘small-government crusaders’ with backgrounds in either the tech industry or Republican politics," the National Security Counselors’s lawsuit states. "This shortcoming renders DOGE’s membership imbalanced and unfit for the function is has been directed to perform."
