Description

HOWIE-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. (TND) — A call about a "silver Nissan driving all over the roadway, weaving in and out of traffic" led to the arrest of a woman who was apparently delivering food on her 50th birthday.

“I observed the vehicle drifting into oncoming traffic,” a police officer wrote late on the night of July 5 in Florida, “and then straddling the double yellow divider line.
“After a short distance, it stopped in the middle of the road and put its hazards on.”

The driver managed to “pull to the right side of the road in the grass” for a proper traffic stop, but the situation reportedly got worse and worse after the two met.

“The driver, identified as Amy Yandell by her FL DL, appeared to be under the influence of something,” the officer wrote.
“Amy had drool or spit hanging from her chin,” the arrest report continued, “there was food spit out on the top of her drink, and she was having a challenging time making completed sentences.
“Amy said she was an Uber Eats driver, was trying to deliver food. She did have the app up and was near where she needed to go; however, she had been weaving all over the road uncontrollably for the last three miles.

“While Amy was talking, there was a sweet fruity smell emitting from her with slurred speech.

“I asked Amy if she had anything to drink and she said no.”

No food would be delivered that night.

The officer wrote she agreed to perform standardized field sobriety tests but, “As she exited the vehicle, she had trouble finding the door latch.
“When she finally stood up, she had to use the vehicle for support to walk to the back of her vehicle.”
Her performance was not described, but, “Upon completing the standardized field sobriety tests, and based off my observations, Amy was placed under arrest for DUI,” the officer wrote.

Her car, which was about to be towed, reportedly had “a sweet, fruity smelling liquid in a Yeti cup in the center console. Sample was taken as evidence for testing.

“A clear plastic THC d8 gummies container was found on the right side of the passenger front door in the grass. It was approximately four feet from the vehicle.

“Next to the bottle were three blue THC gummies that appeared fresh. The blue THC gummies were field tested presumptive positive for THC.”

Another officer who came to help reported “a silver vape found in her back left pocket with a liquid inside. The liquid field tested presumptive positive for cocaine.”

Then, the officer wrote, “I asked why the bottle of THC gummies was outside the passenger side of the car.
“Amy said she threw them out of the vehicle, and she was sorry for doing so. She said she was trying to get rid of them.”

She was taken to the hospital and then to jail.

There, “She agreed to conduct a breath test,” the arrest report said. “However, when attempting to start the breathalyzer, Amy became incoherent and was unable to complete the test.
“Due to Amy's state, she was unable to sign the DUI citation as well. A warrant will be submitted for a blood draw.”

Yandell, who had just turned 50, was charged with DUI-first offense, tampering with evidence, possession of a controlled substance-THC gummies, and possession of a controlled substance-cocaine.

She was released after 16 hours in lieu of $8,500 bond, but that wouldn’t last.

A few days later, her daughter wrote a three-page handwritten letter to the judge “to stress the dire situation of my mother’s drug abuse.”

Then, the judge ordered her bond from her June 23 arrest be revoked.

Yandell had been pulled over and drugs were reportedly found.

“She advised, she attempted to conceal the pipe because she did not want it to be found because she knew she would get in trouble for it,” the arrest report from that night said.

Yandell was charged with tampering with evidence, possession of methamphetamine, possession of THC oil, possession of THC edible, possession of a small amount of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia, and she spent four days in jail.

Now, she’s being held without bond.
