AMERICUS, Ga (WALB) — An electrical fire has destroyed a downtown Americus craft store, displacing a small business owner and leaving a visible mark in the city’s historic district.

Fire crews responded around 9 a.m. Feb. 12 to Misha’s Crafty Corner in downtown Americus. The owner Jimisha McDonald said everything inside her store was lost.

The storefront sits in Americus’ historic downtown district, where some buildings date back nearly 200 years. The area has seen ongoing revitalization efforts in recent years, with city leaders and business owners working to attract new shops and foot traffic.

Nearby business owners said they are willing to explore ways to help McDonald rebuild.

The fire has left visible damage along the block, a contrast to the usual bustle of downtown shoppers and diners. As debris is cleared, community members say they are committed to supporting McDonald and continuing efforts to revitalize the downtown district.

Officials say no one was inside at the time, and no injuries were reported. The business is connected to a bar and a residential property, but there was no visible damage to those buildings.

Officials say the cause of the electrical fire remains under investigation.
