DOUGLAS, Ga. (WALB) — The Douglas Police Department arrested a suspect following burglaries at two businesses, according to police.

July 4 incident

The first incident occurred July 4 at a business on South Peterson Avenue. Officers responded to an alarm after the business owner reported seeing a suspect on surveillance cameras attempting to force entry into the building.

When officers arrived, the suspect ran from police, prompting a search involving multiple officers and assistance from other agencies. The suspect was located and taken into custody without further incident.

During the investigation, the suspect admitted to attempting to burglarize the business with the intent to steal property, police said.

Second burglary linked to suspect

Officers also developed information linking the suspect to a burglary that occurred July 3 at a business on South Gaskin Avenue. Police said the individual unlawfully entered the building through the drive-thru area, causing property damage.
