SOUTH GEORGIA — The Georgia Department of Public Safety reported six crash fatalities during the July travel period, according to updated traffic incident data released by the department.

Crashes and injuries

The department recorded 192 total crashes during the period. Of those, 101 resulted in injuries and 23 involved an under-the-influence driver. Eight crashes involved a commercial motor vehicle, according to the department.

Citations

Officers issued 324 DUI citations and 470 distracted driving citations during the travel period. An additional 638 seatbelt citations were also issued, according to the Georgia Department of Public Safety.
