ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — An Albany Dollar General is now selling fresh fruits and vegetables, bringing healthier food options to its customers.

The company announced the store at 1401 West Oakridge Drive was recently remodeled and joins more than 7,000 other locations offering an assortment of fresh lettuce, tomatoes, onions, apples, bananas, strawberries, potatoes, sweet potatoes, lemons, limes, salad mixes, and more.

The company says the initiative is part of its mission to invest in the “health of its hometowns.”

“At Dollar General, we strive to be a positive business partner and good community neighbor in Albany,” said Zak Brining, Dollar General’s Senior Vice President of Real Estate and Store Development. “Although we are not a grocery store, we believe the addition of produce in our Albany store highlights our commitment to deliver a pleasant shopping experience that includes affordable prices on quality products in a convenient location.”
