ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — A dog rescued from an Albany alleyway on Aug. 1 is now in the care of a local family who has launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover his medical expenses.

The dog, named Auggie after the date of his rescue, was found after someone posted about him on Facebook through a Facebook group called Peanuts Friends and asked for help. According to McKenna Keller, Auggie had been dumped in the alleyway and left with only a blanket. Keller took Auggie in after rescuing him.

Keller said Auggie is underweight and malnourished and required immediate care. He also has burn marks on his paw pads.

According to Keller, Auggie will likely need vaccinations, weight-gain consultations, and a neuter procedure so he can safely interact with other dogs in the household.

Auggie is being treated for hook worms and is being tested for heart worms by Dockery, Mobley & Associates Animal Hospital. Auggie is 18 months old, but being malnourished has affected his growth, according to Keller.
