LEE COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) — Lee County deputies arrested two suspects over the weekend following a vehicle break-in attempt that led to a foot pursuit and the recovery of stolen property and a firearm.
On Saturday, July 12, at around 3:12 a.m., deputies responded to a report of suspicious activity in the 100 block of Jarrett Drive. A vigilant resident reported seeing two masked individuals dressed in dark clothing attempting to break into a vehicle. The suspects fled on foot toward McIntosh Road after being spotted.
Deputies launched an immediate search of the area. Using their knowledge of common footpaths in the neighborhood, deputies located two individuals matching the description on Mayfield Drive. One suspect initially complied before fleeing, while the second suspect ran off immediately.
During the chase, deputies deployed a Taser, which proved ineffective. A brief physical struggle ensued near a fence, but deputies were able to apprehend the suspect.
The first suspect, identified as Torience Davis, of Lee County, was found carrying a .40 caliber Beretta handgun with a defaced serial number and a Cash App card belonging to a vehicle break-in victim. Davis was booked into the Lee County Jail and faces multiple charges, including:
- Entering Automobile (x2)
- Possession of Tools for the Commission of a Crime
- Obstruction of Law Enforcement
- Criminal Use of an Article with Altered ID
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime
A short time later, deputies located the second suspect, Azarion Mitchell, hiding in a nearby shed. He was taken into custody without further incident and was found in possession of a stolen purse belonging to another victim on Jarrett Drive. Mitchell was also booked and charged with:
- Entering Automobile (x2)
- Possession of Tools for the Commission of a Crime
- Obstruction of Law Enforcement
Deputies recovered multiple stolen items, including purses, ID cards, a wallet, and several financial cards. All recovered property was returned to its rightful owners, and the firearm was placed into evidence.
Authorities credited the swift arrests to the attentiveness of the resident who reported the suspicious activity.
“Thanks to that quick phone call, our deputies were able to apprehend these suspects and prevent further crimes,” the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
Residents are reminded to lock their vehicles, secure valuables, and report any suspicious activity immediately by calling 911.
