ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The U.S. Department of Labor says it is reviewing safety, security and student accountability protocols at the Turner Job Corps Center following a recent death on campus that prompted protests and raised concerns among students and families.

WALB submitted a list of questions to the Department of Labor regarding the incident, including whether a team had been sent to conduct an independent investigation, the identity and status of the victim, support services available to students and staff, and concerns about transparency on campus.

In response, a Department of Labor spokesperson issued the following statement:

“The Office of Job Corps was saddened to learn of this tragedy at the Turner Job Corps Center. We are actively reviewing the incident to determine the center’s compliance with safety, security, and student accountability protocols, including the center’s response to serious incidents.

The Department of Labor remains committed to transparency and student safety and is available to provide additional information consistent with applicable federal privacy laws."
