TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - New court documents released Monday shared more details about the arrest of Andrew Wiley. He is the father of Lori Paige, a Griffin Middle School student found dead earlier this month after being missing for nearly two years.
Wiley was arrested in connection to her death and disappearance, Tallahassee Police announced in a Friday press conference.
Evidence from the nearly two-year investigation led detectives to believe that Wiley killed his daughter on June 1, 2023, and dumped her body in a wooded area in Thomas County, Georgia on June 2. Arrest papers say he reported Lori missing on June 3.
Police say on June 2, Wiley “took preparations to flee the continental United States.” The father purchased a one-way plane ticket from Jacksonville to Puerto Rico for the following day, according to the court documents.
Phone records revealed he traveled to Jacksonville on the evening of June 2, but for unknown reasons, he returned to Tallahassee almost immediately and did not leave the States.
Additionally, “evidence of Wiley’s purchases leading up to the murder of Paige suggests there was likely abuse of Paige occurring, which may have been of a sexual nature,” per the court records.
Wiley also destroyed his electronic devices to conceal his actions, according to the court documents.
A relative of Lori’s revealed to investigators in a February 2024 interview that Wiley was worried about being “treated as a suspect” in the investigation of his daughter’s disappearance.
In an interview with police in February 2024, Wiley said he “was unable to remember the events of the week leading up to when he reported Lori Paige missing.”
That same month, investigators searched Wiley’s car and found several items, including a pistol, ammunition, and car cleaning fluid, court records revealed.
“Floormats normally present and typically provided with a vehicle were absent,” the court records wrote.
The arrest papers go on to say that “a bottle of cleaning spray was also discovered and had a label affixed which touted its ability to specifically clean or remove blood.”
Paige’s blood was confirmed to be present in the carpet of Wiley’s car after the carpet was removed and sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement crime lab.
Court documents also detailed Paige’s childhood and her relationship with her parents.
Described as quiet and smart by classmates and relatives, Paige experienced “serious depression and displayed signs of resentment for her parents,” according to court records.
“In both households, it appeared she was left alone for hours at a time with no supervision and that this occurred from a very young age,” investigators wrote.
One of Paige’s relatives told detectives that the 12-year-old felt abandoned by her mother and was “capable of self-harm.”
Court records revealed that Paige’s parents shared custody of the middle schooler until her mother relinquished custody to Wiley prior to the 2022-2023 school year.
On Saturday, Wiley was denied bond on his second-degree murder charge. Judge Anthony Miller also accepted State Attorney Jack Campbell’s request that Wiley be barred from having contact with several of his and Paige’s family members.
