CRISP COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - A Crisp County business owner is calling for county leaders to take action after the county’s school board chairman directed a derogatory term toward him.
Chairman Joe Joe Wright and Davontae Hunt, a Crisp County business owner, were involved in a recent Facebook discussion involving the power commission, a board that one of Wright’s relatives is a member of.
On Facebook, Hunt commented, “Your grand niece is a representative of the people in this position. You’re making it personal. No one cares that this is your grand-niece. We’re addressing our Chairman of the Power Commission. Beat it!”
Wright responded, “____ you punk best thing you can do boy is never speak to me. (You’re) a wanna be... and a punk”.
Following the social media squabble, Wright issued a statement regarding the incident in a separate post.
Hunt says being called a boy was demeaning and says Crisp County has done little to nothing to address this situation.
“Whenever you say boy to a grown man, you’re intending to strip him of something. There has been no acknowledgement of the issue, there has been no shift in infrastructure, there has been nothing except for Joe Joe can still come to work everyday,” he explained.
Wright stated, “My friends, I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to everyone for the language I used in response to an instigator…I will avoid responding to all these pages of hate created by racial hate groups…”
Hunt says the school board chairman has not apologized to him.
WALB reached out to the Board of Education to see if Joe Joe Wright’s status had changed, and we have not heard back.
“Just because you don’t like when someone says something like that and can’t speak without using those words, you should resign”, said Hunt.
On Tuesday, Crisp County leaders met privately with Hunt. But they wouldn’t publicly divulge what was discussed.
WALB reached out to the Crisp County Commission for a comment on this situation and was told by the chairman that this is a personnel matter and they decline to comment.
