Description
CORDELE, Ga. (WALB) – In a coordinated operation on April 1, the Cordele Police Department, with the help of the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team, executed a search warrant in the 400 block of East 24th Avenue.
According to the CPD, this action followed an extensive investigation by the Cordele Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division into a series of shootings in the city since February. While no injuries were reported from these incidents, investigators recovered approximately thirty shell casings from several crime scenes.
During the operation, officers arrested a 17-year-old male suspect, who now faces multiple serious charges, including:
- Two counts of aggravated assault
- Possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime
- Discharging a firearm near a roadway
- Possession of tools for the commission of a crime
- Violation of the Georgia Street Gang Act
In addition to the arrest, officers seized four firearms, several magazines—including a high-capacity drum magazine—numerous boxes of ammunition, gun parts, and a bulletproof vest. The arrest follows an earlier apprehension in connection with one of the shootings, which led to the recovery of additional firearms. The shootings are linked to criminal street gangs, and authorities continue to explore connections between the suspects involved.
The Cordele Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is actively working on the case.
