COFFEE COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) is warning residents of a scam that is circulating.

Scammers are reportedly calling residents and claiming to be Marcus Dunlap with CCSO, according to CCSO.

The sheriff’s office said law enforcement will never call, email or contact people for payment to offset a sentence, avoid arrest or release a family member.

Anyone who receives these calls is asked to:

  • Hang up immediately
  • Do not sent money or give personal information to the scammer
  • Contact local law enforcement agency to report the call

"Your safety and awareness are our priority. Please share this post to help protect others in our community," CCSO said.
