COFFEE COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - Coffee County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) is urging the public to stop shooting guns into the air after deputies responded to a disturbing incident involving an innocent child.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were called to a case just days ago where a child was struck in the head by a falling bullet. Officials say the child survived the incident and is expected to recover.
Authorities say the case serves as a serious reminder about the dangers of celebratory or reckless gunfire. Deputies noted that stray bullets can strike vehicles, damage homes, injure pets, and seriously hurt or kill innocent people when they fall back to the ground.
“What goes up must come down,” the sheriff’s office warned in a public message, urging residents to act responsibly when handling firearms.
Officials say while this child survived, similar incidents across the country have ended in tragedy. The sheriff’s office is encouraging the public to think twice before firing weapons into the air, reminding residents that one careless decision could cost someone their life.
