AMERICUS, Ga. (WALB) - Senior goalkeeper Shelby Driver signed to play soccer at Toccoa Falls College, extending her athletic career beyond high school.

Driver said she was grateful for the opportunity to continue playing.

“I’m really excited. I knew I was going to be really sad if I didn’t continue. I was going to miss it a lot. So I just can’t wait to see how that goes,” Driver said.

The goalkeeper credited her coaches for helping her develop her skills.

“I wouldn’t have been able to do it if they didn’t push me to my limits and work on what I specifically needed to work on because there were things that I was struggling with, such as penalty kicks,” Driver said. “Before Nate helped me, I had never saved a penalty kick in a single day in my life.”

Driver said her decision to attend Toccoa Falls was based on comfort and support.

“Without them, I wouldn’t have had as much support as I do. And their support has just, like, made me happy. And to know that I have someone backing me up,” Driver said.

She said the campus and community felt like the right fit.

“The campus is beautiful, and the people just seem like my people. It just feels kind of like I’m in the right place,” Driver said.
