ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — Human remains discovered in the woods during an extensive search in Albany have been officially identified as those of missing 18-year-old, Samuel Jackson, according to authorities. Samuel Jackson’s brother was arrested for his murder, Dougherty County Police announced Wednesday, Sept. 9.

The identification was confirmed after an examination of the remains by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Crime Lab and the Dougherty County Coroner’s Office.

Jackson had been missing since Friday, June 26, when he left his home. He was last seen around 8:30 p.m. that evening at a home on Shady Glen Lane in Dougherty County. After his disappearance, local law enforcement and the community launched an active search to find him.

During the search operation in early July, investigators found human remains in the woods where Jackson was known or believed to have traveled. The remains were immediately turned over to the GBI Crime Lab and local coroner’s office officials for scientific verification, which has now concluded with an identification.

At this time, investigators have not released further details regarding the cause or the teen’s manner of death. The Dougherty County Police Department and GBI are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Jackson’s disappearance and death.

Authorities urge anyone with information regarding this case or any events leading up to Jackson’s disappearance to contact the Dougherty County Police Department at 229-430-6600 or call 911.
