Description

MACON, Ga. (WGXA) — The Bibb County Sheriff's Office, firefighters, and county officials are spending Monday and Tuesday engaging with the community with the annual 'Night to Unite' event.

It is aimed at promoting crime prevention activities, fostering neighborhood camaraderie, and encouraging unity against crime.

Sheriff David Davis emphasized the importance of community togetherness, saying, "It's like a family reunion each year where neighbors get together and talk to each other and talk to law enforcement about what's going on on their street so we can all be united to march and make our community safer."

Multiple county-organized cookouts are scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, providing a relaxed setting for residents to discuss local issues with law enforcement. Davis said, "We hope it has a difference in the community so they know that law enforcement cares about them. They can meet with each other over a hamburger, talk about what's happening on their street and also engage the kids."

Will Keyes, U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia, highlighted the necessity of such events in reducing crime. "As a U.S attorney tasked with prosecution, but the problems in our community that exist can't be solved with just prosecution or can't be solved with just law enforcement. It takes the community working with our youth and getting out there coming together and presenting as a united front to solve these problems," he said.
