Description
BERRIEN COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - Fire crews in Berrien County responded to two separate fires just hours apart.
According to the Berrien County Fire Department, crews from the Nashville and East Berrien units were conducting their weekly training at their stations when they were paged to a structure fire in the East Berrien District. Firefighters quickly shifted from training mode to emergency response and were able to bring the structure fire under control.
As units were clearing that scene and preparing to return to service, East Berrien crews were dispatched to a second emergency, a grass fire at Highway 76 and Giddens Road caused by a downed power line.
Officials say the incident serves as an important reminder to never approach a downed power line and to always assume it is live and dangerous.
No word yet on injuries or the extent of damage in either fire.
We are working to learn more details and will continue to provide updates.
