NASHVILLE, Ga. (WALB) - A Berrien County daycare teacher was fired Wednesday, May 6, after a video of her allegedly hitting a child was shared with the daycare’s owners.

On Wednesday, Amber Boyd, the parent of the child that was allegedly hit by the daycare teacher, shared the teacher’s photo on social media, warning other parents.

In the video, you can see a hand thump the child on her ear— parents say that is the hand of the teacher that has now been fired from Joyful Noise Academy in Nashville.

The Nashville Police Department (NPD) confirmed that this is an active investigation.

Under Boyd’s post, many parents shared their own experiences, but Boyd said the daycare ownership acted quickly in responding to her concerns.

“I cannot speak for everyone’s experience, but I know for as long as my girls have been in that daycare they have learned so much, and they love being there that is until my oldest was placed in the room with the teacher that the incident occurred with. And that is when she started hating going to daycare. I should’ve known right away, but I didn’t, and I can only learn from this situation moving forward. Again a huge shout out to the owner, director and assistant director for hopping on this situation. I truly do love Joyful Noise Academy. My post earlier not to discourage any other parents that has young ones attending this daycare, they truly have some amazing workers. This could’ve happened anywhere at any time. This is a hard situation and tons of little ones involved in the situation are being handled by not only the daycare, but law-enforcement as well.”

WALB spoke to Joyful Noise Academy ownership and they confirmed that the teacher was fired after the incident was reported to the daycare director. The owner’s then stated there is now two separate complaints against the teacher. They confirmed that parents are seeking to press charges.

Nashville Police said they will release the report and charges once the investigation is complete. WALB is also working to confirm if the alleged teacher had a previous criminal history and what those charges reflect.
