CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — Steve Bannon, a former Donald Trump strategist, levied harsh accusations at long-term Trump ally Sen. Lindsey Graham Monday for his continued support of Ukraine in its war with Russia.

Bannon, while expressing frustration with Ukraine's drone attack against Russia over the weekend, attempted to blame Graham for "stirring the pot" and claimed the senior senator should be "arrested."

Ukraine's attack on Russia destroyed more than 40 Russian planes deep in Russia’s territory, Ukraine’s Security Service said on Sunday, according to reporting from The Associated Press.

A military official, who spoke with the AP on condition of anonymity to disclose operational details, said the far-reaching attack took more than a year and a half to execute and was personally supervised by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Bannon claimed the White House should condemn the military attack and stifle Graham’s diplomacy.

“The White House has to condemn this immediately and pull all support and tell Lindsey Graham to come home or we are going to put you under arrest when you come home. You’re stirring it up,” Bannon said Monday on his “War Room” podcast.

Bannon also accused Graham of operating behind Trump's back to broker a deal with Ukraine.

Following the drone attack by Ukraine, Graham praised the "resourcefulness" of Zelenskyy's country.

"Russia indiscriminately kills men, women and children," Graham wrote on social media. "It’s time for the world to act decisively against Russia’s aggression by holding China and others accountable for buying cheap Russian oil that props up Putin’s war machine."

Of late, Graham pushed to sanction Russia by imposing a 500 percent tariff on imported goods from countries that buy Russian oil, gas, uranium and other products if Russia refuses to engage in "good faith negotiations for a lasting peace with Ukraine."

The U.S. Senate is set to move ahead with a bill imposing more sanctions on Russia over its three-year-old war in Ukraine, Graham said on Friday after talks with President Zelenskyy, according to Reuters.

Graham said he aimed to muster bipartisan congressional support "for tools that would help President Trump get Putin to the peace table. These sanctions would do that."

It isn't clear that if Graham's sanction measure would pass the Senate, the House would be eager to vote on a similar measure.

News 4 reached out to Graham's office regarding Bannon's comments and didn't hear back.
