ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The aunt of a young woman killed in a crash at the intersection of Nelms Road and the Liberty Expressway in Putney is demanding answers.
Carol Harrell, aunt of Alicia Cunningham, spoke at the June 2 County Commission meeting, questioning why a safety improvement plan proposed 10 years ago still hasn’t moved forward.
Twenty-year-old Alicia Cunningham died when a dump truck hit her car at the intersection of Liberty Expressway S.E. and Nelms Road. Dougherty County District 6 Commissioner Anthony Jones says the Georgia Department of Transportation has had a plan in place to improve the intersection since 2015.
The proposed solution is an R-cut design, but it has yet to be implemented. Harrell pressed commissioners today for answers.
“My question is, it was in the paper from 2015 that something was going to get done. Is this not what the commission does….up to GDOT to make that decision," said Harrell
FSA town hall meeting is scheduled for June 3 at 6:30 p.m. at Lighthouse Ministries, located at 2320 Liberty Expressway, to the public about concerns about the intersection.
