Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - A significant cold pattern known locally as the Arctic Express is moving into the region, bringing sharply colder temperatures and the coldest air of the season so far.
Skies will turn cloudy and cool ahead of an Arctic cold front. Temperatures will drop noticeably as a brisk northwesterly wind arrives Thursday, with morning wind chills in the 20s and daytime highs only in the 30s.
A First Alert Weather Day is in effect from 10 p.m. Thursday through 10 a.m. Friday as temperatures fall toward near 20° Friday morning. The forecast then calls for brief milder conditions Saturday before another Arctic blast moves through Saturday night.
There is even a chance of a few snow showers Sunday morning, with some models showing the possibility of a light dusting for parts of South Georgia.
Looking ahead, colder conditions are expected early next week, with lows in the middle 20s and the potential for another hard freeze.
Motorists and residents are advised to plan for colder weather, keep an eye on First Alert Weather updates, and take precautions during the hard freeze periods later this week.
