Description
ARABI, Ga. (WALB) — Arabi police warned residents on Sunday, June 14, about a scam call targeting families in which the caller claims a loved one has been arrested and demands money to get them out of jail.
A woman said she received a call from a restricted number with a man claiming that her daughter was in the Crisp County Jail. The caller reportedly asked for money—$1,000—even through Apple Pay.
Police said the woman called family and learned that her daughter was safe at home. When confronted, the caller hung up and the number was disconnected.
Officials encouraged the community not to send money or personal information to unknown individuals claiming to be law enforcement officials. Instead, hang up and call law enforcement directly to verify.
