DENVER (Gray News) - An American Airlines plane caught fire at the Denver International Airport on Thursday.
According to multiple outlets, the fire started on a passenger plane that was parked at gate C38, which produced visible smoke.
KDVR reports that passengers had to evacuate the aircraft and slides were deployed.
The Denver International Airport said the fire was extinguished and 12 people were transported to area hospitals by Thursday evening, the outlet reported.
An American Airlines spokesperson said flight No. 1006 had landed safely at the airport but experienced an engine-related issue when taxiing to the gate.
The 172 customers and six crew members deplaned and were being relocated to the terminal.
The flight had taken off from Colorado Springs and was headed to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport but was diverted to Denver, American Airlines said.
The plane used for the flight was a Boeing 737-800.
