ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Albany Technical College celebrated the grand opening of the Dr. Anthony O. Parker Transportation Academy with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Named after the late visionary leader in technical education, the $10.8 million, 22,344-square-foot facility marks a major step forward in workforce development for Southwest Georgia.

The state-of-the-art academy features cutting-edge labs, classrooms, paint and prep booths, and industry-grade equipment tailored for training in automotive collision repair and diesel technology. ATC President Dr. Emmett Griswold called the facility “a testament to our mission of preparing students for high-demand careers,” emphasizing its role in supporting the region’s economy.

Vice President of Academic Affairs Lisa Harrell also praised the hands-on learning environment, saying the advanced technology will ensure students are job-ready upon graduation. Attendees at the event included the Parker family, community leaders, and local officials.
