Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Dozens of pounds of unused and expired medications are now off the streets after a recent drug take-back event, according to the Albany Police Department.
Officers with the Albany Police Department collected nearly 40 pounds of pills and prescription medication during their latest pill drop-off. The department says events like this help prevent misuse, accidental poisoning, and environmental harm caused by improper disposal.
“When people have the opportunity to get rid of unused or unwanted prescription is way better than putting it in the garbage or flushing it down the toilet,” an officer said. “It’s always good that people can turn it in instead of putting it back out in the environment, which we don’t need.”
The Albany Police Department encourages residents to continue using designated drop-off locations such as the Dougherty County courthouse throughout the year to safely get rid of unused medications.
