ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) -A family escaped a house fire on Evergreen Drive overnight, but their dog did not survive.

Flames tore through the home, which had been in the Threadcraft family for more than 30 years. Everyone inside made it out safely.

“Very traumatic because we’ve had her for a long time,” said Meagan Threadcraft, a resident. “You worked so hard for everything and now it’s gone.”

The family said their smoke alarm alerted them in time to escape.

“Please check your fire alarm. Make sure they’re working,” Threadcraft said. “Any little spark, just immediately get out. If I wouldn’t have never heard the fire alarm, we would have still been in there.”

The fire left the home heavily damaged, displacing the family. The Threadcraft family has a GoFundMe set up.
