ADEL, Ga. (WALB) – A fire broke out at Michelle’s Formal Wear early Tuesday morning, sending heavy smoke into the area of 4th Street and Burwell Avenue.
According to a post shared on the store’s Facebook page, the fire started shortly after 8 a.m. The business, a staple in the Adel community for nearly 32 years, was engulfed in flames.

“Our hearts are shattered as we’ve been here for almost 32 years,” the post read. “The first responders were here within minutes and are still working to put out the fire. We appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers for us as we work through this.”
Michelle’s Formal Wear said they will be contacting customers as soon as possible regarding dresses on layaway or special order. The owners are asking for prayers and patience as they determine their next steps.
The Cook County Chamber of Commerce says they were told by staff that the prom/homecoming dress side was affected — the bridal side is fully operational.
WALB’s James Irvin will have more details in later newscasts as this story develops.
