DECATUR COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - WALB has now learned that a 62-year-old man has died after being trapped inside of his burning home.

According to the Decatur County Fire and Rescue responded to a structure fire in the Blackjack area, early Thursday morning, and the fire was quickly brought under control, preventing further damage to surrounding properties, but the home was a complete loss.

Decatur County Coroner DeWitt Phillips confirmed to WALB that Charles Newsom, 62, was inside the home at the time of the fire and was trapped.

The fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshal.
