VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) - Four people, including two juveniles, face felony charges after a domestic dispute on Friday, Feb. 27, ended with a vehicle being shot multiple times, according to the Valdosta Police Department (VPD).
According to police, officers responded to the 700 block of Lausanne Drive at 11:15 p.m. Friday after reports of a domestic dispute involving gunshots.
Police said a verbal dispute between a 16-year-old and his stepfather turned physical. The stepson allegedly contacted friends, who came to the residence and joined the altercation, according to police.
As the stepfather attempted to leave in a vehicle, the car was shot multiple times. VPD said evidence of a firearm being discharged was found in front of the residence.
Officers were told that the stepson and three friends walked away from the scene. An officer located all four: the stepson, a second 16-year-old juvenile, Andrew Coates (17) and Dimitrius Brabson (18).
One of the juveniles attempted to flee but was apprehended. Officers recovered a backpack that was dropped during the chase. The backpack reportedly contained two firearms and narcotics.
The four individuals involved are charged with the following:
16 year-old (juvenile):
- Aggravated assault
- Possession of a firearm during a crime
- Possession of a handgun under 18 years of age, 2 counts
- Obstruction of an officer
16-year-old (stepson):
- Aggravated assault
- Possession of a firearm during a crime
- Battery
Dimitrius Brabson, 18:
- Aggravated assault
- Possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony
- Battery
Andrew Coates, 17:
- Aggravated assault
- Possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony
- Possession of marijuana with intent to distribute
According to VPD, the Department of Juvenile Justice authorized detention of the two juveniles at a Regional Youth Detention Center. All four suspects were taken to the Lowndes County Jail.
