GEORGIA (WALB) - The National Weather Service (NWS) has confirmed that three tornadoes touched down across Middle Georgia during severe storms on the night of Wednesday, March 11.

One of the tornadoes was rated an EF2 and struck Macon County. According to NWS, two people were injured and several mobile homes were destroyed as the storms moved through the area.

As communities begin the recovery process, Gov. Brian Kemp thanked emergency crews and local organizations that quickly responded to the damage.

“As Middle Georgia begins to recover from Wednesday night’s storms, I want to thank the teams at the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency, the local EMAs, the American Red Cross, first responders, and everyone in the local communities for their great response efforts.”

The governor acknowledged the work of agencies including the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency and the American Red Cross for assisting communities impacted by the storms.

State and local officials continue to assess damage and support recovery efforts across the region.
