HERRIMAN, Utah (KUTV) — Three people were taken to the hospital after an SUV involved in a three-vehicle crash slammed into a Salt Lake City-area business late Saturday night, rupturing a gas line and triggering a powerful explosion that sparked a massive fire.

The crash occurred around 11 p.m. near 5200 West and 13400 South. Herriman police and Unified Fire Authority responded to reports of a collision followed by an explosion, which ignited the fire.

Two bystanders risked their lives to rescue the driver and passenger from the burning vehicle, pulling them out just moments before the car became fully engulfed in flames, officials said.

As crews worked to extinguish the car fire, the gas line reportedly exploded, destroying the building and causing significant damage to two other structures.

More than 60 firefighters from the Unified Fire Authority, South Jordan, West Jordan, West Valley City, Sandy, and Draper were dispatched to fight the blaze.

Three people were transported to local hospitals. Officials said no firefighters or law enforcement officers were injured.

Due to the active gas leak, residents on Terra Crus Lane and Parasol Lane were evacuated, while those in nearby neighborhoods were advised to prepare to leave if necessary.

The gas leak was contained, and all evacuation orders were lifted by 1:05 a.m. Sunday. As of Sunday morning, 13400 South remains closed in both directions until further notice.
