ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WIS/Gray News) - A deadly shooting at South Carolina State University caused a lockdown Thursday night.

University officials said two people were killed and another person was injured in the shooting.

The victims’ identities have not been released and police have not provided details about a potential suspect.

The university said it has asked the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division to investigate.

South Carolina State University’s Department of Public Safety, as well as officers with the Orangeburg Department of Public Safety and the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office, patrolled the area.

A campus alert sent shortly after 5 a.m. Friday announced that the lockdown had been lifted, but classes remained canceled.
