COFFEE COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) — Two people are facing charges in Coffee County after a drug bust conducted by the sheriff’s office.

On Tuesday, Sept. 22, sheriff’s office officials announced the results of the operations, the first of which happened Sept. 8 when deputies pulled someone over for making an improper turn. Deputies say they suspected criminal activity, and did an on-scene investigation, which revealed suspected meth in the possession of Cameron Dale Pierce, 46, of Douglas.

Narcotics agents were called in at that point. A subsequent search revealed more than 28g of suspected meth and other drugs. Pierce was arrested and charged with trafficking in methamphetamine and possession of controlled substances.

Three days later, agents did a search at a home in the Northside Mobile Home Park. During that operation, they encountered Shelia Marie Dunn, 53, also of Douglas. Officials say she was in possession of suspected meth as well and was arrested. She was charged with trafficking in methamphetamine and violation of probation.

Pierce and Dunn were both booked into the Coffee County Jail.

Because of these arrests, the sheriff’s office is issuing a public safety warning about the dangers of meth. Aside from its biological risks, which include stroke, heart attack, and death, meth being sold on the streets is increasingly being laced with deadly synthetic opioids like fentanyl. The sheriff’s office wants to remind people that Narcan only reverses opioid toxicity, but does not reverse a stimulant overdose cause by meth, meaning drug users can remain exposed to severe biological trauma even when Narcan is used to intervene.

“Methamphetamine destroys lives, tears families apart, and threatens the safety of our neighborhoods,” said the sheriff’s office in a statement accompanying the arrests. “Our message to those manufacturing, transporting, or selling these substances in Coffee County is simple: stop. Working alongside the Douglas Police Department, our specialized units will continue to aggressively identify, investigate, and dismantle drug operations across our jurisdiction. Coffee County is not a safe haven for illegal narcotics.”
