WASHINGTON (7News) — A 39-year-old woman was struck and killed Monday night by a semi-truck carrying tanks out of Washington, D.C. from the Army's 250th military parade, according to 7News' sources.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is investigating the deadly pedestrian crash that happened around 9:32 p.m. in the 2800 block of New York Avenue, Northeast.

When officers arrived, they found a woman unconscious and not breathing. MPD said she was struck by a semi-trailer truck and a Chevrolet Suburban.

DC Fire and EMS responded, and despite all their efforts, the woman was pronounced dead. She was later identified as Sierra Nichole Smith, of no fixed address, MPD reported.

According to the police investigation, the semi-trailer truck was traveling eastbound in the 1600 block of New York Avenue, Northeast, when Smith allegedly ran into the roadway, stumbled, and fell in front of the truck.

The driver of the semi-truck struck Smith, and she was pinned under the truck.

As the truck continued to travel eastbound, the woman was dislodged from under the truck in the 2800 block of New York Avenue Northeast. That's when she was struck by a silver 2007 Chevrolet Suburban that was traveling behind the truck.

The drivers remained on scene.

According to sources who spoke to 7News Reporter Christian Flores, the trucks involved were shuttling away tanks from the Army's 250th military parade celebration when the pedestrian ran into the roadway.

There is no indication at this time that the drivers are at fault.
