NEW ORLEANS (TNND) — Authorities have charged a Louisiana woman with second-degree murder following the mysterious death of a sports reporter who was found dead in his hotel room after traveling to New Orleans to cover the Super Bowl.

The 27-year-old anchor and reporter for Telemundo in Kansas City, Missouri, was found dead on Feb. 5 during Super Bowl week.

On Tuesday, Kenner Police detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Danette Colbert, linking her to the tragic death of Adan Manzano. New evidence uncovered by investigators indicated Colbert and her alleged accomplice, Rickey White, had a pattern of drugging and robbing victims.

Forensic analysis tied Colbert to the presence of Alprazolam (Xanax), a substance found in Manzano's system and previously connected to other victims. During a search of Colbert's home the day after Manzano's death, authorities discovered the anti-anxiety medication, further strengthening the case.

Detectives allege that Colbert intentionally drugged Manzano to make him lose consciousness before robbing him — a scheme she reportedly repeated in prior offenses.

The Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office ruled Manzano’s cause of death as the combined toxic effects of Alprazolam and alcohol with positional asphyxia. His manner of death was classified as "undetermined."

Meanwhile, Colbert’s alleged accomplice, Rickey White, was arrested on multiple charges, including simple robbery, access device fraud, illegal transmission of monetary funds, bank fraud, and computer fraud.

Authorities located White at a La Quinta Inn & Suites in Hollywood, Florida, where the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, Hollywood Police Department, Secret Service Task Force, and Kenner Police collaborated to take him into custody. White is currently held at the Broward County Sheriff’s Office Jail in Fort Lauderdale, awaiting extradition.

Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley reaffirmed his department’s dedication to justice for Manzano and his loved ones.

"I committed to leaving no stone unturned in the pursuit of justice for Adan Manzano’s family and friends," Conley stated. "The men and women of the Kenner Police Department are working around the clock to ensure this does not happen to another family."

Colbert remains in custody at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center, now facing a second-degree murder charge in addition to previous offenses.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities encourage anyone with information about Colbert or White to contact the Kenner Police Criminal Investigations Division at 504-712-2222 or Crime Stoppers at 504-822-1111.
