LEE COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) — [Update @6:10 p.m. 8/7/26] According to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), the vehicle involved in the crash was fleeing from a Lee County Sheriff’s Office Deputy who attempted to stop it for a traffic violation.

Officials said the driver was traveling North on Lovers Lane Road near Century Road.

“The violator attempted to turn left (West) onto Century Road and struck a Sumter EMC utility pole with its front end. After impact, [the vehicle] came to an uncontrolled rest, and the violator continued to flee on foot. The violator was placed under arrest without further incident.”

[Original article] Officials are responding after a vehicle involved in an apparent high-speed chase crashed into a Lee County telephone pole on Friday, Aug. 7, in the afternoon.

The crash was at the corner of East Century Road and Lovers Lane at about 1:40 p.m., eyewitnesses said.

The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) and Lee County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) responded to the scene Friday. It is unclear whether anyone was injured in this incident.

The driver of the vehicle that crashed has not been identified. Their location is unknown at this time.
