VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) - A 15-year-old Valdosta boy is facing charges after police say he posted a video on social media showing him walking through a neighborhood with a firearm.

Police say they learned about the video around 9:15 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27. They determined the teen was walking near Diana Drive when he posted it to social media.

Officers went to the 2300 block of Diana Drive and located a home connected to the teen. Police say his mother allowed officers inside to speak with him and look for the firearm.

An officer reportedly saw the teen trying to hide something inside a stack of storage bins in his bedroom. Police say they found a firearm inside one of the bins that matched the gun seen in the social media video.

The teen was arrested on charges of possession of a handgun by a person under 18 and tampering with evidence, both misdemeanors, according to police.

The Department of Juvenile Justice authorized the teen to be detained at a Regional Youth Detention Center. He was taken to the Lowndes County Jail to be transported to the facility.
