ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — A handgun was recovered by the Dougherty County Police Department (DCPD), officials announced Tuesday, Jan. 20 at 10 p.m., following an investigation into a threat allegedly made on social media. A man is in custody after he reportedly made the Facebook post containing a threat.

Both the DCPD and Albany Police Department (APD) confirmed that the man, Jermaskie Williams (32), was taken into custody.

It appears that the original post that law enforcement officials have referred to, which reportedly contained a threat, has been removed from Facebook.

Screenshots of the post containing the alleged threat have also circulated. The second-hand posts appear to show that Williams made a threat to “shoot” an unspecified school in Albany.

Officials said there is no active threat to the public at this time.

The Dougherty County School System released a statement on the alleged threat.

The statement reads, in part, "Situations like this reinforce the importance of speaking up. Remember, if you see or become aware of any concerning posts, messages or behavior, please report them immediately to law enforcement or school officials.”

Williams is charged with making terroristic threats, according to DCPD. The department said that additional charges may be forthcoming, as the investigation remains ongoing.
