DAWSON, Ga. (WALB) - The father of a 1-year-old child who died June 14 was charged with several counts of murder, child cruelty and more, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) announced on July 10.

The man is Dy’Carius Garfield, the 25-year-old father of Ry’cari Garfield. The GBI says he now faces the following charges:

• Malice Murder
• Felony Murder
• 2 counts of Aggravated Assault
• 2 counts of Aggravated Battery
• Cruelty to a Child (1st and 3rd Degree)

Ry’Cari Garfield was flown to Wolfson’s Children’s Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, where she was pronounced dead after being treated by local EMS on June 14.

The child’s mother, Arnijah Serieux, told WALB that her daughter had fractures to her skull among other injuries.

The GBI said Garfield is being held in the Lowndes County Jail for unrelated charges. In this case, Garfield’s charges were brought on July 9, according to the GBI.
