SUMTER COUNTY, Ga. (WTVM) - On Saturday night, a Sumter County Sheriff’s Deputy pulled over a vehicle on Martin Luther King Boulevard for a traffic violation.
Upon investigation it was discovered that a passenger in the vehicle had an outstanding warrant and was taken into custody without incident. Shortly after, it was revealed he had what appeared to be a crack smoking device in his possession.
Additional investigation lead to a canine search of the vehicle, where the canine alerted and a large quantity of pills were found in a bag belonging to a passenger in the back seat. Both Kyle Stephens and Mack Thompson were arrested and charged with drug charges.
The driver of the vehicle was issued a warning for his traffic violation and released from the scene.
Kyle Stephens was charged with possession of a drug related object and failure to comply with a court-ordered child support payment.
Mack Thompson was charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and a schedule II controlled substance.
