WASHINGTON (TNND) — President Donald Trump will host Bahrain's crown prince and the Qatari prime minister at the White House on Wednesday in a pair of high-stakes meetings to discuss plans for a $17 billion investment and an effort to broker a truce in Gaza.
Trump is scheduled to greet Bahrain's Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa at 11 a.m. and hold a bilateral meeting after the crown prince met with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer on Tuesday to sign an agreement to invest more than $17 billion in the U.S.
An official told Reuters that part of the investment will involve a deal between Gulf Air and Boeing/GE valued at around $7 billion for 12 aircraft with an option for six more. The sale of 40 GE engines will also be included.
The deal follows Trump's Middle East trip in May, where he secured a $600 billion deal with Saudi Arabia and a $243.5 billion economic deal with Qatar. This included Qatar's order of 210 Boeing jets, valued at $96 billion.
He concluded the trip with a visit to the United Arab Emirates, where he solidified a $1.4 trillion investment pledge made by the UAE in March.
The White House official added that the deal with Bahrain will support 30,000 American jobs and was secured with help from Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.
In the evening, Qatari Prime Minister Mohammad bin Abdulrahman al-Thani will have dinner with the president as Israeli and Hamas officials are in Doha, Qatar, to discuss a potential ceasefire.
