WASHINGTON (TNND) — President Donald Trump congratulated House Republicans after they worked late into the night Sunday to narrowly advance his "big beautiful bill" that GOP leadership wants passed by Memorial Day.

"CONGRATULATIONS REPUBLICANS!!!” Trump posted on Truth Social just before 1 a.m. on Monday. “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!"

The House Budget Committee voted 17-16 to advance the 1,116-page "One Big Beautiful Bill Act."

The bill includes provisions to make 2017 tax cuts permanent, allocates over $46 billion for the construction of a southern border wall, and provides $4 billion to hire additional border agents and customs officers. It also proposes $150 billion more for defense spending. To fund these initiatives, the bill suggests a nearly $800 billion reduction to Medicaid, introducing work requirements that could potentially remove millions from the program.

Five House Republicans joined Democrats on Friday to sink the budget bill and stall it in committee.

Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters that there are still details to "iron out."

"There’s a lot more work to do, we’ve always acknowledged that towards the end there will be more details to iron out, we have several more to take care of," he said.
