Description
(CNN) – Trader Joe’s has set a one-dozen egg limit per day for customers due to egg shortages caused by the bird flu.
A company spokesperson says this will help stores prevent their shelves from going bare.
Avian flu resulted in the deaths of more than 40 million egg-laying birds in 2024.
The lack of eggs has caused them to be more expensive and led to some people trying to buy large amounts per visit.
Trader Joe’s isn’t the only retailer attempting to cope with the egg supply shortage.
Kroger officials say although they haven’t officially placed a company-wide limit on eggs, some of its stores have done so based on availability.
Waffle House has added a 50-cent price hike for each egg ordered.
The agriculture department predicts the cost of eggs will increase another 20% before the end of the year.
