SUMTER COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - In preparation for severe storms, Sumter County Emergency Management (SCEM) announced a tornado shelter in the area is open.
The shelter behind the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) Post is open now for anyone wanting to seek shelter from the storm tonight, SCEM posted on Facebook. The GSP Post is at 113 William Bowen Pointe in Americus.
SCEM asks anyone using the shelter to be mindful that no one from SCEM will be on site. They said restrooms and change tables are available.
SCEM said they will be monitoring the weather and posting updates to the shelter availability on their Facebook account.
If any issues arise while at the shelter, contact the SCEM at 229-938-1513.
